Prior to the MP3 and file sharing revolution of the 21st century, “indie music” was a term that signified music originating from independent labels and artists. Coming from beyond the borders of established corporate song-factories, independent music offered one of the few alternative sources of sound-culture for the western world and a small oasis of innovation in the midst of an otherwise barren musical desert.

From Sun Records and Stax, all the way to Rough Trade and Creation Records, independent labels maintained a constant influx of new sounds which would later dictate new directions for mainstream music. Now, in lieu of expensive studio time, more and more “bedroom” musicians are beginning to utilize affordable recording equipment and unorthodox methodology to emerge as one of the only true mainstays of “indie” music.

In order for the term “independent” to continue to hold any meaning relative to the current state of the music industry, it should only refer to a further subversion and foregoing of all label-affiliated music whatsoever. As the few remaining major labels are beginning to assimilate the Pitchfork-friendly pool of “indie” bands and artists, the remaining musicians who are truly “independent” of the mechanizations of the industry will be those who create and distribute their music from an almost entirely DIY approach.

As history has proved time and time again, truly innovative leaps in music almost always come from outside, underneath and beyond the established norms of conventional culture. In this light, try not to be fooled by record labels fronting the words “independent music.” Nowadays, if the music is the real deal, hearing is believing. You won’t need a brand, tagline or special phrase to tell you when it’s completely authentic.

So you caught an episode of Girls on your Satellite TV premium channels and you want to start dressing like a Hipster. It’s relatively easy but you need a few crucial items to make the whole look come together – we’ve got a short shopping list you can use as a guide:
Sarcastic T-Shirt – the foundation of any Hipster wardrobe is a sarcastic T-shirt, preferably one with a short statement about popular culture or even politics, if you can swing it. Black or neon are the choice colors for Hipsters.
Wire Rimmed Aviators – Dark glasses are a must after long nights spent drinking PBRs and staying up late talking about philosophy. Aviators are a great choice because they’re retro-cool but also go with everything else you might have in your hipster wardrobe.
Skinny Jeans – The darker the better and black if you can get your hands on them. The traditional hipster is thin himself and loves nothing more than gray or worn jeans and if you can swing some ironic patches, go for it! They’re a great addition to any hipster outfit.

Today with so many fashion trends being set, so many genres of music, and so many artists trying to cross over from one type of music and style to another, the old school vintage music, is combining with a hipster look, in order to give this kind of music a revival. With so many artists trying to bring in their own flair, style, and the look that will allow them to stand out, the hipster style is one of the most unique, and the more fun styles which can really allow an artist, or a group, to stand out, and really let themselves be seen.I was looking for more information and found it here.

So, whether a group is trying to fit in with today’s style and fashion sense, or whether a group is just trying to get a younger vibe, and draw in a younger crowd of fans, the hipster fashion style is definately a style that can allow that group to do so. The old songs, with the right like will really allow an artist to stand out, or a group to make itself heard, with so many new groups coming out onto the scene. So, for that hip fresh look, the hipster style is the way to go.

Hipsters are the type of people who are on the margins of the music industry. They love music no doubt, but they tend to like things that the majority of the public has heard nothing about. They believe in following artists that are largely undiscovered because they feel that these artists have not sold themselves out to the overrated music industry.

Hipsters drive some artists out of irrelevance and into a more important role. This can often have an odd effect in that the artist then becomes something that they no longer wish to follow. After that have created this popularity for the artist, hipsters will start to run away from following that artist. It is a start phenomenon, but it does happen. The hipsters just do not like the overrated music industry and what it does to their artists at all.

Whenever you start to hear about an artist becoming popular for the first time, you might want to see if that person had hipster followers in the past. You may find that they indeed came from this kind of background, and that may impact the way that you view them and their continuing career. It can be an interesting way to look at musical artists.

Believe it or not, there is more to hipsters than their clich thick-rimmed glasses, vintage clothing, skinny jeans, and big messy hair. Despite the originality of a hipster’s clothing, which is becoming increasingly less original as more and more hipsters are surfacing, they are all about their attitude. A hipster’s attitude defines their hipster ways, not the way they dress.

Hipsters simply do not care. They wake up every morning with the intention of not fixing their hair, not caring what other people, and not caring what they themselves do. Hipsters believe it’s their way or the highway. Hipsters are also highly intellectual, well, at least they think they are. Hipsters typically throw long, unknown words into sentences without even knowing what they mean. Perhaps the hardcore hipster may look up a big word in the dictionary every morning, but most just don’t even care if they made up a word or not. Also, hipsters are all about setting trends. If it’s been done before, guess what; they won’t do it. Hipsters hate everything that is mainstream, particularly their music. If a band they have liked from the beginning goes mainstream, their love for this band gets buried deep below.

Okay. The concert is on Friday, and you want to be cool. Really cool, and comfortable. There are some rules about hipster fashion that have to be observed at all times:

Know what the Hipster Movement is really about. We are counter to designer labels, spa treatments, and most clothing over one hundred bucks unless they are a cool pair of Doc Martens.

There is skinny jeans, and leggings. They need to be in the wardrobe no matter what. Also glasses need to be on deck, whether you wear them or not. The wearing of T-shirts that are socially responsible or politically challenging are perfectly acceptable. Remember, you were cool before cool became socially descriptive.

The thrift store before closing provides a lot of inspiration. On Fridays, a lot of spots are doing the half off sales anyway.

Most concert venues need comfortable shoes and a hoodie because they are air conditioned and packed to standing room only.

Know when you need to dress up. We do that well, and vintage works, and so will Urban Outfitters, ASOS, Forever 21, as well as Old Navy and the Gap. Shop the clearance stuff first, just to maintain your frugal living and urban survival points.Still bored?
